Alaska Edition Maule Specs
• Lycoming IO-540 Engine– These engines are one of the most reliable piston aircraft engines available today. They will fly a God’s Country M7-235Alaska Maule with 35” Bushwheels at 127mph at 15.8 gph, 118 mph at 12.8, or at 105 mph and 10.8 gph. These are real world numbers at sea level. You can cruise along with Supercubs and burn the same fuel, or burn more fuel and get twice the work done in the same day as you could with a Supercub.
• 86″ Composite MT Constant Speed Propellor- A special prop was field approved to get the max performance for take off and climb. It is an 86” composite MT propeller with a thick, strong nickel leading edge. With this prop, these Maules will takeoff from 300 ft ridgetops with an entire Alaskan Yukon Moose.
• Spectacular power to weight- The Green, God’s Country M7-235Alaska Maule dynoed 256hp at 2400 rpms and weighed 1476lbs, giving it a power to weight of 5.7 lbs per HP. This power to weight ratio is better than that of the newest Carbon Cub UL which weighed 960lbs on small 26” tires. With 160 hp it came out at 6 lbs per hp.
• Long wings, balanced flap/aileron- One of the things that really makes these Alaska Edition Maules perform so well is the long wing with the long ailerons and 119″ flaps. The standard M7 wing is 32’11” wing with 115” flaps. The God’s Country M7-235Alaska Maule have a 33’ 8” wingspan with 119” flaps. These planes will fly at 38mph when light, and 48 mph at gross weight when at sea level on a standard day.
• Extended Heavy Duty Landing gear and Acme Shocks- Our Maules have a certified landing gear system that excels in rough terrain. The C180-185s are great planes for semi- improved strips but the gear box does not hold up in rough terrain.
• Swing up front doors- We love these doors! The swing up doors make it easier for loading and unloading passengers, pets, and large Alaskan mammals.
• Sport Aircraft seats- These are the most comfortable, best looking seats we have ever seen in Maule aircraft. They also save 12 lbs over the factory seats.
• 4130 Chromoly fuselage- Built light and strong! A tube and fabric plane is stronger than a Cessna fuselage and is cheaper and easier to repair if ever damaged.
• Light, strong and well balanced: Attention is given to every ounce that goes on the plane. We build these planes to be worked hard in the Alaskan environment. This means they must be strong and light. If a plane is strong and light but not well balanced in all axis’ it will be miserable to fly. We have worked with the FAA to get approval to remove weight off the nose and if we could not remove it completely, we moved it aft. This has made these Maules the most enjoyable of all the 235 hp Maules to fly.
How did the God’s Country Edition Maule Begin?
At the age of 15, Curt taught his son Isaac to fly in a Maule M-7 235 on 31” bushwheels, in the northern Brooks Range of Alaska. The places His dad took his family with that plane, hunting, fishing, camping and exploring the wilderness of Alaska, inspired Isaac’s love of flying. For Isaac, the vision was not just landing in places no one had ever been before, it was the ability to do that with family and friends along.
For many years Isaac’s dream machine has been a plane that will haul the pilot with 2 passengers and 170 pounds of gear in and out of 300 ft strips with no wind. It would be able to explore vast remote regions of Alaska without having to refuel, cruise at 130 MPH on 35” bushwheels. It must have exceptional reliability and be easy to maintain. When it’s not hauling whole moose and getting work done, it would be a plane that would allow him to take his whole family and still access rough, short, unimproved strips on gravel bars, mountaintops, beaches and everything in between.
The Maule he learned to fly in was a great plane, but it did not do what he dreamed of. For over 22 years as a commercial pilot in Alaska, Isaac flew all of the classic bush planes being operated but still was not able to find one that met all of his demanding requirements.
In 2018, Renae and Isaac began to work with the Maule Factory to modify the Maule to meet the demanding environment of backcountry flying in Alaska. He was also looking to see if it could possibly be the plane he had always dreamt of.
They had a goal to get a longwing M7 with big tires and longrange fuel tanks under 1500 lbs. It took 5 years to accomplish. In 2024 they finally saw this goal realized. The green Maule came in at 1476lbs on 35’ Bushwheels. It was well balanced and performed better than any other plane Isaac had ever flown. It would haul two passengers and 170 lbs of gear in and out of 300 feet without wind. It cruised at 128-130mph on 35s. It would legally fly an entire moose off short, ruff, tundra strips. It held enough fuel to fly over 800 miles without refueling.
Our latest build we called the Alaskan Cranberry Maule sold. Now, over the winter of 2025, we are building 3 more that are all sold as well.
